I was born in Havana, but I left very young, without visual memories.

I went back to the neighbourhood where my family lived. I only have seen pictures from family albums and in fact it wasn’t enough to imagine the place.

I walked down the streets and stood in front of the sea, that is the physical border of an island.

I always dreamed to come back, but being finally here I felt the huge distance in time between this place and me.

Though it seemed there was not so much visible change from 30 years ago. Cuba always has this clich? image, like a post card. It was half true. I wanted to discover the back of it and express my feelings about.

I called the project “ausencia”, or absence.
